I’ve just started up a new game of the first Spyro the Dragon, and it made me think.

Not that I had never thought of this before; most of you will know how saddening Spyro’s alteration was to oldschoolspyro, and many others. But it occurred to me that I’ve never actually made a post about it.

By just starting up a new game, everything about it brings back so many memories: the sounds, the colours, the music, the voices, everything. And it just plain sucks when I think about what has happened to our beloved purple dragon. I don’t care if Skylanders is an amazing game. It’s not about that. It’s about how twisted and messed up they made Spyro look. I’m sorry if you actually take a liking to his new appearance, but ugh it’s really upsetting.

Some consider Skylanders to be a game that’s meant to appeal to younger children, that most likely won’t be aware of the old Spyro, and therefore it shouldn’t matter. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter to those of us who were in love with him and the game from the very beginning. What was wrong with the way he used to look? How is such an ugly thing meant to appeal to anyone?

A memory hasn’t necessarily been destroyed, because we can always look back and just focus on our old school Spyro… however, it’s just a real shame that he had to be tampered with in such a way. They didn’t have to make him look like a scrawny pug-like lizard with sharp teeth and claws to make him seem stronger or more menacing. Our Spyro was already a hero in his own way :c.
